Tumor Marker Testing

Tumor marker testing is a blood test that measures specific cancer-related antigens to evaluate an individual’s potential risk for certain cancers. It includes assessment of markers such as CA-125, CA 15-3, CA 19-9,Carcinoembryonic Antigen (CEA), and Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA). Elevated levels may occur in both malignant and benign conditions; hence, this test serves as a risk assessment tool rather than a definitive diagnostic method.

What’s Included in the Test:

CA-125: Primarily associated with risk of ovarian, fallopian tube, lung, and breast cancers.
CA 15-3: Commonly used in monitoring breast cancer, and may also be elevated in lung, pancreatic, and prostate cancers.
CA 19-9: Commonly used as a tumour marker for pancreatic caner, biliary track cancer, gallbladder cancer, gastric cancer and colonrectal cancer.
CEA: Broadly used to assess risk for colorectal, lung, gastric, pancreatic, liver, and other cancers.
PSA: Mainly used to screen for prostate cancer and monitor its progression.

Potential Health Concerns:

Gastric cancer risk: Particularly for individuals with a family history.
Colorectal cancer susceptibility: Especially if there is a personal or familial history of polyps or genetic syndromes.
Lung cancer probability: Useful for early detection and monitoring over time.
